Lynchburg Tn

Lynchburg Tn

Back at it folks dropped off our hire car only to collect the next one that we will be spending the next 67 days travelling in and camping and motels until we hit the Vegas Strip.

We left Orlando around 12:30 late start for the day but that’s the way the cookie crumbles, long and arduous drive up towards Lynchburg the home of Jack Daniels, drove straight 9 hours and saving wildlife on the way, unfortunately could not make it in one go so we had to stay in a town called Franklin, full of spanner heads and hicks. Early morning start and a quick 2 hour drive and we finally reached our campsite in Manchester Tn found old stone fort national park where we were going to stay if it weren’t for our neighbour, not going to rude but hell they made it feel unsafe.

So we packed up and found another park called whispering camp ground, not bad and well go very intimate with wildlife in the toilets cheap and cheerful. Parked off and found our favourite store walmart to get a few things, back to the park and relaxed in the pool area, the weather has been faultless and great.

Right why we travelled the 11 hours the Jack Daniels distillery, all worth the sweat and tears folks something everyone need to go and see at least once in there life time, nearly all the ingredients are sourced within the county of Tn, corn and barley are two of the ingredients that are not from the County, the water is sourced from the spring that runs through the distillery and is the only water that is used nothing artificial folks, enough history well worth going if you are a Jack fan and the town of Lynchburg lives up to the hype small and intimate.

Next update folks will be from Memphis

Kennedy Space Centre

Kennedy space station folk’s was awesome, loads of cool things and gadgets, $38 dollars a person, that was the cheapest ticket oh don’t forget the tax. It’s killing me the tax thing everywhere we go different state different tax it sux.

Enough moaning it was worth the $$$$$, about the centre, they have got a simulator oh and that’s was awesome, everything the astronauts feel you feel and the simulator goes vertical hold on it’s a gripping ride, after that we climbed aboard a Kennedy shuttle which took us to three different locations.

Location 1 was the LC -39 observation gantry great view of the launch pads A and B. location 2 Apollo/Saturn V centre has a 363 foot moon rocket some big toys and a firing room replica that demonstrates lift off, way cool and very realistic. Location 3 international space station centre, a small glimpse into the making of some of the components for the shuttles men in white and blue 1 piece suites.

And finally an IMAX 3D movie of the Hubble telescope, first 3D for me and it was great, you really do feel part of the mission. Left KSC and headed for the beach Cocoa beach, bit of a drive from centre about 40 min but well worth it feeling the sand between the feet and smell of the ocean and the feel of the water as it laps over your feet ok not my feet but Ali’s.

Until the next instalment folks

Orlando

Well folks we are in Orlando after an 18 hour bus journey on the Greyhound, let me just say that it was an eye opener, and probably the last time we ever go on the Greyhound.

Hicks and some dodgy looking folks make up the most of the travellers on the Greyhound cheap not so much but no car no choice.

First week in Orlando some major lessons learnt don’t trust tourist info places when they say they are giving you the best price, look on the internet the best prices are there. Don’t make decision when you’re tired they come back and bite you on your backside.
So cheap motel/hostel accommodation, private room so not sharing with anyone, hostel is cool have met some great people and picked up loads of tips on places to avoid and must see places and also our first USA BBQ at the hostel.

We have been chilling a lot here as it is extremely hot; have done a couple of the attractions, Sea world and Aqautica. Sea world is a must, see sea life with a touch of Hollywood whom I kidding it’s a lot of Hollywood!!!!!

We have moved into a private villa owned by one of Alison’s ex Colleague, well luxury is the word that comes to mind, 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and our own private pool with a lake view!!! Unreal.

I can’t comment on the backpackers lifestyle as we have yet to experience it for real, it’s on the way 10700 miles round trip back to New York camping.

Off to Cocoa beach tomorrow to swim in the sea and also to see Cape Canaveral and possibly Kennedy space station and on the way back Ripley’s believe it or not.

That’s it for now folks catch you all soon

Washington DC

Thursday, 10th June
Happy Birthday Haze. We will be thinking of you on your special day
After a good breakfast we checked out and went into town via the shuttle service.  Walked to the Greyhound station and for the first time experienced the proper weight of my backpack :o). Got our tickets and sat waiting for our bus, met a friendly American guy who told us about his European holidays.  Then our bus pulled in and lets just say it was not one of the plush ones advertised on Greyhound's website but was rather along the lines of an old school bus.  So on we got at 12.30pm and waved goodbye to Washington DC.  A great city full of ..............you guessed it Museum's.

Wednesday, 9th June
Not much to update you on as we spent the day at the hotel, watched TV, did some washing.  Caught up on emails and skyped some friends.  It rained today - first time since we have arrived.

Tuesday, 8th June
Caught the shuttle service into town and visited the Air and Space Museum.  We returned to the Natural History Museum for me to see the Hope Diamond (recall the necklace in Titanic).  We wanted to watch a movie but unfortunately did not make it there in time.  Walked around the shops in Union Station and caught the shuttle back to the hotel.  Enjoyed a swim, followed by an ice coffee and TV.  A good day all in all.

Monday, 7th June
We checked out of the hotel though kept our bags there while we walked into town.  We visited The American Indian Museum as well as a Botanical Garden, which was stunning.  We walked to Hooters for a much deserved lunch :o)  Moved onto Capitol Hill (this was our view from our room at Capitol Skyline).
Returned to the hotel early afternoon and caught a taxi to Days Inn, where we are booked in for the next three nights.  It is much further out so we were relieved to see that they offer a shuttle service to Union Station every morning and afternoon.   We have a Dunkin Donuts downstairs which sells amazing ice coffee's (think I have found a new addiction).  Night all.

Sunday, 6th June
We started the day with a full breakfast, followed by a walk into town where we visited the Natural History Museum, The History of America Museum, saw the Washington Monument, World War II memorial, Lincoln Memorial, The White House (rather dissappointing), The Holocast Museum (Excellent) etc.  After all the walking we spent the evening chilling and looking into the next leg of our trip.

Saturday, 5th June
After catching a taxi to the hotel (Capitol Skyline) and checking in we enjoyed a swim in the hot weather.  Caught up with emails etc then headed to MacDonalds for dinner (I know!!).  Turned in for an early night.

NYC To Washington

Howzit Guys,

Friday was filled with alot of sightseeing and a bit of shopping, sights to cross off the list are, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Ground Zero if you have been there I don't have to tell you how massive the sight is, took a moment to take everything in and how it must of felt to be there when this was all taking place!!!
also visited Soho, Wall street, Harlem and loads more places can't name them all!!!!!

We are sitting on the bus at the moment driving down to washington DC, bus has wireless internet so we have been able to book and plan some of the rest of our trip all the way down the east coast, all I can say is that it's pretty jacked up when it comes to keeping people connected.

Have been able to find accomodation for tonigth and Sat while on the bus.  No availability at hostels due to it being summer, holidays so hotel it is :o)

Thats all for now folks will keep you updated as much as possible.

Take care
